Professional Profile

The contribution from professionals with interdisciplinary training in the environmental field to society is clear. The “Master’s Degree Course in Environmental Management Sustainability” will act in the interface of well-established knowledge fields, such as Biology, Geography, Forestry Engineering and Agronomy, by connecting them to one another in order to enable broad and multidisciplinary perspectives. Biologists’ training focuses on biodiversity and biotechnology, whereas the Master’s Degree Course in Environmental Management Sustainability will cover the main information and knowledge aimed at the conservation and management of wild, rural and urban conservation areas, as well as at helping the promotion of their sustainable development.

 This very same factor applies to forestry engineers, agronomists and zootechnicians, among other professionals who can act at Conservation Unit management level, or even provide advisory services for such areas. These professionals will be able to master the information necessary for their environmental management activity without delving into a single knowledge field (i.e., being specialists); based on the acquired knowledge, they will be able to interact with other professions associated with the environment.

The performance of individuals with Master’s Degree in Environmental Management Sustainability in preserved areas will have the same importance level, namely: strategic analysis of environmental impacts affecting such areas, monitoring the local fauna and flora, exploring natural attractions through tourist activities and managing such areas.

Masters graduated at PPGSGA will be able to work in the following sectors/activities:

  • municipal, state or federal public management agencies;
  • inspection, licensing and environmental protection agencies;
  • technical assistance and rural extension agencies;
  • environmental consulting and advisory companies;
  • natural resources’ extraction and processing companies;
  • third sector organizations - NGOs and OSCIP (Civil Society Organization of Public Interest) - working in the environmental field.
