Research Lines
Protected Areas
This research line focuses on the study, analysis and discussion about the conservation of protected areas, from the natural and social sciences’ perspective. Studies based on this research line range from biodiversity diagnosis and analysis, direct and indirect uses in protected areas, to discussions about the relationship between protected areas and their surrounding populations and/or dwellers.
Natural Resources
This research line focuses on investigating natural ecosystems’ dynamics, on the conservation, restoration, management and sustainable use of natural resources, to help recovering and/or conserving them, as well as on using critical reasoning at the time to analyze human actions’ causes and effects to promote quality of human life in balance with the environment.
Socio-environmental Conflicts
This research line focuses on investigating the relationship between humans and nature, both in natural (protected areas) and modified environments (rural and urban areas), by taking into consideration the use of natural resources, its impacts, and public policies associated with such a use. The aim of these studies is to investigate sustainability in all its aspects (economic, social, environmental, ethical and cultural, among others) to enable new developmental approaches and strategies.
